Romans 1:8-15

Romans 1:8-15
ESV
Longing to Go to Rome
"First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God's will I may now at last succeed in coming to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you--that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. I want you to know, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles. I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

NASB
First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world. For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you. For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established; that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine. I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that often I have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles. I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

Hey Dave,
So I finally crawled out of the caverns of anti-blogging. I'm not sure if I'm going to actually make my own blog or not, but I'll start with baby steps. I just wanted to thank you for your amazing testimony of actively pursuing truth and proclaiming it to the world. Know that your actions do not go unnoticed (obviously God sees, but also by those in your circle of influence). I am encouraged by your daily walk with the Lord and commitment to bringing every area of your life in complete surrender to Him. I also want to thank you for posting this series in Romans. I look forward to using what you have posted as a resource and tossing around ideas. God bless and keep letting Christ live through you.

Love ya bro,
Matt

Here's the long version:

Romans 1:8-15
8. First, I am thankful to my God on account of Jesus the Messiah for all of you, because your faith is being announced throughout the entire world.
9. For God is my witness, and it is God whom I serve with my spirit (wind/breath) in the proclamation of the Good News of God's Son,
10. that incessantly I remember you at all times in my prayers, wanting that somehow by God's will I may now at last have a prosperous journey in coming to you.
11. For I yearn to see you, that I may give a share of some Spiritual free gift of Grace to you to support you--
12. That is, that we may be exhorted/strengthened together by each other's faith, both yours and mine.
13. I want you to know brothers, that I have often set it before myself to come to you (but thus far have been hindered), in order that I may have some fruit among you as well as among the rest of the Nations.
14. I am under a debt both to Gentiles and Barbarians, both to the wise and those who don't understand.

Again I do like both versions!

Here are my thoughts:

8. Paul is making the Romans aware that He is thankful of them, that through Christ their Faith in Christ is being spread throughout the entire world.

9. Paul is again stating His mission, that he serves God and has been commisioned to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ

10. The first part of verse 9 is connected here, that God is Paul's witness that Paul is always praying for the Romans and wanting to go to Rome.

11. Paul longs to see the Believers in Rome, that he could impart a to them a free grace gift to support them...Paul doesn't tell us what that gift is, other than that it is free and it will support/build up the Roman Christians

12. That in His doing so, both the Romans and Paul will be mutually strengthened and exhorted by each others faith.

13. Paul wants the Romans to know that he has been trying to get to Rome, but that God has not allowed him to go there yet...most likely keeping Paul in Asia with other work. Paul's desire is to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ and to see new believers in Rome.

14. Paul says that He is under a debt (this debt is through Christ) to the World, everyone in the World.

15.Again, Paul states his eagerness to come to Rome and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ.

In Christ,

David

How do we respond to the Gospel?

1. We must believe it!
It is a Free Gift of Salvation
Trust in Christ and Christ Alone!
Purely and Exclusively Christ!!!

2. We must share it!
Vs. 14-15 "I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. So I am eager to preach the Gospel to you also who are in Rome.
and Vs, 16 "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."

In vs. 17 "Faith for/to Faith"

Beginning to end -- in Christ
"For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from beginning faith to ending faith, as it is written, The righteous shall live by faith."

In Christ,

David
