Don't miss the Gift!
Hebrews 2:1-4
Warning Against Neglecting Salvation
"Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."
What have we heard that we must pay close attention to?
That was all in Chapter one. That Jesus Christ is the Son of God! Who came to be the worlds sacrifice to God.
Jesus is the Gift, He is our salvation and faith in Him is the only thing that can justify us! His blood is the only thing that can wash us clean of our sins.
What message declared by angels?
There were many messages declared by angels! And all of them have proved to be reliable! And anyone we disobeyed did receive their just retribution! Jesus Christ was declared to us also by angels, even God Himself opened the Heavens and spoke, "and behold, a voice from heaven said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.'" Matthew 3:17
If people received just retribution before for not obeying what God said through the angels, what makes us think that we can escape it now?
Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, the Christ! God opened the Heavens and told us Jesus was His Son! There have been many signs and miracles as well as the Gift of the Holy Spirit to us.
We are without excuse! We have been told who the Messiah is and that we will be punished if we don't believe.
But, I think the reason many people don't believe, is that they don't experience His Love!
"Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends." John 15:13
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him." John 3:16-17
How can we help people to experience this Love?
This will be the topic of the next post.....Hebrews 2:5-18
In Christ,
David
