Romans 11:25-32

Romans 11:25-32
ESV
The Mystery of Israel's Salvation
"Lest you be wise in your own conceits, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, 'The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob'; 'and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins.' As regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all."

NASB
"For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery--so that you will not be wise in your own estimation--that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, 'THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB.' 'THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS.' From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God's choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now have been shown mercy because of their disobedience, so these also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy. For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all."

The Long Version:
Romans 11:25-32

25. Lest you be wise/sensible/understanding in your own conceits, I want you to understand/recognize/perceive this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening/blindness has come upon Israel, until the fullness/completeness of the Gentiles has come in.

26. And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, 'The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish/remove ungodliness/impiety from Jacob';

27. 'and this will be my covenant/testament/will with them when I take away their sins.'

28. As regards/accoding to the gospel/good news, they are enemies/hostile to God for your sake. But as regards/according to election/divine selection, they are beloved for the sake/because of their forefathers.

29. For the gifts/gift of grace and the calling of God are irrevocable/not repented of.

30. Just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received/been shown mercy/pity/compassion because of their disobedience,

31. so they too have now been disobedient, in order that by the mercy/pity/compassion shown/given to you they also may now receive/be shown mercy/pity/compassion.

32. For God has consigned/shut up/enclosed all to disobedience, that He may have mercy/pity/compassion on all.

My Comments:

25. Paul wants the Gentiles to understand that there is a partial hardening over Israel.
In the same way that God hardened Pharaoh's heart in Genesis, He has now hardened the hearts of the people of Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles come in. Once the fullness of the Gentiles comes in, the partial hardening of Israel will be lifted.

26.-27. All Israel will be saved.
Who is Israel? Is not Israel more than a Nation/People Group? Is not Israel the promise of a Messiah/Savior? The promise of Jesus Christ?
The People that He was sent to rejected Him and Crusified Him. And a Hardening of there Hearts occured so that His Message would extend out to the entire world. And as soon as the fullness of the world (the elect from the world) is brought/grafted in, God will soften the hearts of His people once again!

28. Right now, they are enemies of the Gospel and Hostile to God, but God still loves them and in the end times, will soften their hearts to Himself once again.

29. This is an amazing verse!
It is refering specifically to the Nation of Israel, but, can be applied to all those who are in Christ Jesus!!!
The gifts of God and His calling to us are irrevocable! They cannot be taken away!
This verse speaks very clearly that if God considers us His Children, He will not take that away from us! That is a gift and a calling!!!!

30.-32. The reversal of roles here is amazing!
Israel was/is God's chosen people, and the Gentiles were disobedient.
Now Israel is disobedient and the Gentiles are being called into fellowship with God!
But all were to be disobedient so that God could show His amazing Mercy on all peoples!

In Christ,

David

More on Israels Hard Heart:

2 Corinthians 3
Ministers of the New Covenant
"Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some do, letters of recommendation to you, or from you? You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all. And you show that you are a letter from Christ delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts. Such is the confidence that we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us, but our sufficiency is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. Indeed, in this case, what once had glory has come to have no glory at all, because of the glory that surpasses it. For if what was being brought to an end came with glory, much more will what is permanent have glory. Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit."
