Romans 12:1-2
ESV
A Living Sacrifice
"I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

NASB

My Comments:

1. Because of everything that Paul has talked to us about, the fact that we are sinners and deserve God's punishment, the fact that God has chosen us to be His children, and the fact that God still loves Israel and will soften their hearts, Paul encourages us to present our bodies to God as living Sacrifices!

This is a drastic change from the O.T. where animals were offered as Sacrifice for sins...now after the perfect Lamb of God was offered as a sacrifice to pay for the cost of our sins, we are to daily offer ourselves to God.

2. We must be separate from this world and the times within which we live. We are new creations in Christ Jesus and must renew our minds --- that is to have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16 "'For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?' But we have the mind of Christ.") And with this we can determine what God's will is.

In Christ,

David

The Normal Christian Life
Doctrine to Duty

Things are designed to run a certain way. When we do them in that way it is easy, when we don't, it's hard.
So, How did God design us?

What is the "Normal Christian Life"?
We must not allow ourselves to be squeezed into the worlds mold!
We are changed in the renewing of our minds! Getting into the Word!

1. A life of Surrender (1-2)
Giving ourselves, laying it all down at His feet!
Regular, Consistantly, and Daily
We were bought with a price, because of what God has done in Christ (covered in Chapters 1-11), we are made new!!!
Right Now -- compared to the old Jewish Sacrificial Law System, we are to sacrifice our live and live for Christ.
Problem is, we are Living Sacrifices, and what do they want to do? Get up off the alter! Paul tells us to stay on the alter!!!
This is a logical and rasional thing to do IF you understand what Christ has done for you already!!

We must give to ceaser what is ceasers, it bears his image. And give to God what is Gods! What bears the image of God? We do, we must give ourselves to Him!

2. A Life of Service (3-13)
When we surrender, we are inlisted in His service!
What does this service look like?
A) Marked by Humility (vs 3)
If I serve, I serve by the Grace of God. Our gifts through different is not better!

B) If you have a gift, USE IT!!!
It is abnormal for a Christian to sit on the sidelines!

C) Should be excelent -- do it well, you are serving the Creator! when you serve the King, serve Him in excelence!

D) Charater (9-13) Service and Charater are intertwined! They cannot be separated. Matthew 25

3. A Life of Gracioussness (14-21)
Responding in love and compassion in all situations!
We are called to be gracious.
Always give 2nd, 3rd, 4th...chances to those who fail, that is what Christ always gives you!
2 Samuel 16 and 19 give a wonderful example of how David was Gracious to a man who betrayed him.

In Christ,

David
