Romans 12:14-21

Romans 12:14-21
ESV
"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.' To the contrary, 'if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.' Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

NASB
"Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, 'VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,' says the Lord. 'BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.' Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

Stephanus 1550 New Testament

My Comments:

14. Luke 6:27-28
"But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you."
Direct from Jesus!
Challenge Point: How often in our daily lives do we do this?
How can we implement this into our live?

15. Luke 6:31
"And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them."
Unity in the Body of Christ is very important! And here Paul seems to be saying that it is even more important in times of great joy and deep sorrow.

16. Again Unity in the Body is huge! We who are Born Again (Regenerate in Christ Jesus) have the mind of Christ! We need to strive to loose all conceit and pride! How we think determines how we live!!! Who cares what kind of a position we have in this world...everything here is going to burn!!! But rather we should associate with the lowly...or lowly in spirit.

17. This goes well for dealing with all people, Christian and non-Christian alike!
This is also a great way to stifle conflict!
It defuses tension right away and allows for resolution to happen! Besides, there is no sin that a person can commit against us, that is greater than the sin we commit against God! He forgives us, we should more than forgive others...Here is a parable about forgiveness:
Matthew 18:21-35
The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant
"Then Peter came up and said to him, 'Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.' 'Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents. And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, "Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything." And out of pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, "Pay what you owe." So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, "Have patience with me, and I will pay you." He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place. Then his master summoned him and said to him, "You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?" And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt. So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart."

18. We as Christians are to strive for Peace, but, Paul understands that Truth will always bring division and we are to stand for the Truth of God over peace. That is why he says, "If possible, so far as it depends on you". We can't make peace with someone who is opposed to the truth. But we can try to live peaceably with them, but we can't control them and their actions.

19. It is not our place to get even with others. God will do this for His children, His Beloved on the day of Judgment.
Deuteronomy 32:35 "Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly."
We must also remember that God for now is being patient with the wrongdoer. Giving Him time to repent and showing Him grace.

20. Proverbs 25:21-22
"If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,
for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the LORD will reward you."
This kindness to enemies could possibly lead to their conversion, or create a sense of shame in which their behavior will change for the better.

21. Good will always have victory over evil. You may not see the rewards in this life, but in the next your reward will be far greater than any reward you could recieve on earth.
Kill 'em with Kindness!

In Christ,

David
