We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. NASB
"For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus."

4 Comments:
The Long version:
Romans 6:5-11
5. For if we have been/have become united/grown together with him (Christ) in a death like his, we shall certainly/on the other hand be united/grow together with him in a resurrection/raising up/standing up like his (Christ's).
6. We know that our old/ancient self was crucified/crucified together with him in that the body of sin/failure might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved/a slave to sin/failure.
7. For one who has died has been set free/shown to be righteous/declared righteous/innocent from sin/failure.
8. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe/trust/have faith that we will also live with him.
9. We know that Christ being raised/woken from the dead will never/no longer/no more die again/no longer/no more; death no longer/no more has dominion/is lord/master/rules over him.
10. For the death he died he died to sin/failure, once for all/last time/only time, but the life he lives he lives to God.
11. So you also must consider/reckon yourselves dead to sin/failure and alive to God in/through/on account of/because of Christ Jesus.
My Comments:
5.Through Baptism (of the Holy Spirit) we have become united with Christ in His death. And because we are united in His death, we are also united to Him in His resurrection!
6. We died with Him so that our sinful body could become nothing...so that we would no longer be slaves to it, it's sinful desires, and sin itself.
7. Because if we have died to sin...we are set free from it.
The Greek word actually means declared innocent from sin!!!
Because we have died with Christ...we are declared innocent because of Him!
8. And because we have died with Christ, we believe/Trust also that we will live with Him.
9. Christ died once...He defeated Sin and Death and neither have no rule over Him.
10. The death that He died to Sin was a ONE TIME DEAL!!! He will not do it again!
But the life that He lives is continual...and He lives for God the Father!!!
11. So, because we have died with Christ to sin and death, and we trust/believe that we will be raised through His resurrection, we also should continually live for God the Father because of Jesus Christ.
In Christ,
David
A little Laten Helps:
Posse Pecarre; Non Posse Non Pecarre; Posse Non Pecarre; Non Posse Pecarre.
Able to sin; Not able to Not sin; Able not to sin; Not able to sin.
Posse Pecarre/Able to sin:
This was the state of Humanity at the time of Adam and Eve.
They were perfect...but able to sin.
Non Posse Non Pecarre/Not able to Not sin:
This was the state of Humanity after Adam and Eve sinned. And is currently the State of all humanity outside of Christ Jesus.
Humanity was not able to stop sinning.
Posse Non Pecarre/Able not to sin:
This is the state under the Lordship of Christ Jesus.
Through Him, we have the ability to not sin...
But we still do...there is still the choice to obey God, or not!
Non Posse Pecarre/Not able to sin:
This will be the state of Humanity after Christ returns and deffeats Satan once and for all.
Vs. 11
This is the first time in the whole book of Romans that Paul gives a command!
Up until this point Paul has never said, "Do" this!
Here Paul says, "So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus."
If you can verbally acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of your life, Paul says, you MUST consider yourselves...
Let us continually live our lives through Jesus Christ, for our Father in Heaven!
In Christ,
David
Latin, wow. Cool man, keep it up.
