Romans 8:26-30

Romans 8:26-30
ESV
"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified."

NASB
Our Victory in Christ
"In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified."

Stephanus 1550 New Testament

My Comments:

26. Because we have this body of flesh and we continually strougle with its desires and the desire of our soul to obey God, we are weak! So the Spirit of God helps us. We do not know or understand how to pray, so God helps us with the Holy Spirit!!

27. And God knows what is in our hearts because His Spirit intercedes...talks to God on our behalf according to God's will!

28. And everything (good and bad) God takes and works them all for the good of those who love Him. His Children, those who follow Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

29. Paul is talking about those who are saved, those who will be with God for all eternity.
God foreknew who they were, He predestined them to be made into the likeness of His Son!!!

Now you may be asking yourself, what about free will? Doesn't the Bible teach that we can choose God?
Yes it does!
So how do we reconsile the two things together?
I can't give you a surefire answer on that.
Deuteronomy 29:29
"The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law."

God has secrets! Can you live with that? Is that ok with you?

God is infinate, He is so emense that what He has revealed to us is all our tiny little minds can take. God has secrets that He hasn't revealed to us. But what He has revealed to us, those things are ours and they are all that we need to know!
So, Yes the Bible teaches about Predestination and Yes the Bible teaches about Free Will. And for our tiny finite minds we can't understand how these two things fit together, but for God, I am sure it makes absolute sense.

We must not turn into those who only take the parts of the Bible that they like and ignore the rest!

Try this:
1. God's perspective -- He is in all points at all times! He knows everything, all the choices that we will ever make, He knew them before the foundations of the world...before Genesis 1:1
2. Our perspective -- From our finite position, yes, we choose God, after He reveals Himself to us, but He already knew what choice we would make!

So, can you handle God knowing something you can't understand?

I sure am!!

30. Those who were predestined are called. Those who are called are then justified (by the Blood of Christ Jesus) and through this justification by Jesus, are also Glorified with Jesus!!!

In Christ,

David
