Resolutions for 2006
I have found great new meaning for the "New Year" celebration!
For most, the beginning of the New Year is a time to start over. To have a "Clean Slate" if you will. But this is accompanied by partying and an eventual forgetting of the resolutions by about Mid-Febuary.
The new meaning that I have come to understand, is that the "New Year" as a time for getting a "Clean Slate" is a lot like coming to an understanding of our salvation through Jesus Christ!
Jesus Christ, God's only Son, became fully human and lived here on earth. He went through every temptation that is common to man. Hebrews 4:15 "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin." He lived the perfect life, but chose to do God's will and go willingly to the cross and die there as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world. Matthew 26:39 "And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.'"
But it was so much more than just this death.
It was His Resurection from the dead. Mark 16:1-8 The Resurrection "When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. And they were saying to one another, 'Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?' And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back--it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. And he said to them, 'Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid."
Later in a Revelation to the Apostle John, Jesus sitting on the thrown in Heaven says, "And he who was seated on the throne said, 'Behold, I am making all things new.' Also he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.' And he said to me, 'It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.'" Revelation 21:5-6
In Christ Jesus we have a "Clean Slate", He is making us New Creations! Changing us into the likeness of Himself!
Romans 10:8-13 explains just how we can be made into new Creations through Christ Jesus!
"But what does it say? 'The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, 'Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"
Giving your life over to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the best way to start this "New Year!"
Here are my resolutions for 2006:
1. To always be ready and willing to learn whatever God wants to teach me!
2. To continue to conform my life to the life of Jesus Christ!
3. To abstain/Avoid any appearence of Evil!
4. To have healthy and authentic relationships through Christ with everyone I know...and to repair broken relationships with the help and guidance of Christ.
5. To help people enter into a Right/Authentic Relationship with Jesus Christ...to see them surrender the control of their lives to Him.
6. To gain experience in Evangelism and Discipleship through a local church.
7. To (if at all possible) start Seminary work at Moody.
8. To read through the entire Bible this year, using a planned daily reading.
9. To always meet people where they are at: 1. Not being the Pharisee of Luke 7:36-50 -- Not expecting others to live in the exact same mannar that I live my life. 2. Being the Woman of Luke 7:36-50 -- always remembering where I came from, that I to am a sinner, Jesus has saved me! If I forget this, I become like the Pharisee. 3. Also being like Jesus in Luke 7:36-50 -- Meeting both people right where they are at!
10. To always first and formost, serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
In Christ,
David
