"Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires."

The Long Version
Romans 13:11-14
11. Besides this you know/have perceived the time, that the hour has come for you to wake/rise up from sleep. For salvation/deliverance is nearer to us now than when we first believed/trusted/had faith/confidence.
12. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off/lay aside the works/deeds of darkness and put on the armor/tools/weapons of light.
13. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual/bed/to be laid immorality/promiscuity and sensuality/wantonness/licentiousness, not in quarreling/strife and jealousy/to boil/be hot.
14. But put on the Lord/Master/Owner Jesus Christ/Messiah/Annointed One, and make no provision/forethought for the flesh, to gratify its desires/lusts/passionate longings.
My Comments:
11. Many take this verse to mean that we have not received assurance of salvation, they say because salvation is nearer...that we don't have it yet.
What Paul is actually saying here is:
1. You have perceived that Christ is our only hope for salvation or deliverance.
You have come to the understanding that you are in need of a Savior!
2. Now that you have put your trust in Christ...everyday that you live, you are closer to Eternity with Christ!
When you first believed, you had Eternaly Security in Christ Jesus, now that you are maybe 3 years into your Christian walk, maybe 50 years into your Christian walk, You are closer to that promise of eternal life with Christ...(kind of blunt way to put it...every day you live, you are one day closer to your death...hense one day closer to eternity with Christ!)
12. The darkness that we once lived in is now gone, we are in the light of Christ! So let us live like it! Casting off all of the evil things that we used to do and puting on the Armor of light.

The Whole Armor of God
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak."
If you notice all of the armor is on your front! That is because you have no need for protection of your back! Jesus has your back!!!
This also means...Stay In The Fight! If you turn to retreat...your back is vounrable!
13. Now that we are in the light of day, let us live our lives like it! Everything listed belongs to the night, to darkness. We should not partake in any of it.
14. But agian put on Christ as our Armor and avoid all thoughts of the flesh!
1 Thessalonians 5:22
"Abstain from every form of evil."
