Christ the Hope of Jews and Gentiles
"For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, 'Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name.' And again it is said, 'Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.' And again, 'Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples extol him.' And again Isaiah says, 'The root of Jesse will come, even he who arises to rule the Gentiles; in him will the Gentiles hope.' May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
NASB
"For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers, and for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written, 'THEREFORE I WILL GIVE PRAISE TO YOU AMONG THE GENTILES, AND I WILL SING TO YOUR NAME.' Again he says, 'REJOICE, O GENTILES, WITH HIS PEOPLE.' And again, 'PRAISE THE LORD ALL YOU GENTILES, AND LET ALL THE PEOPLES PRAISE HIM.' Again Isaiah says, 'THERE SHALL COME THE ROOT OF JESSE, AND HE WHO ARISES TO RULE OVER THE GENTILES, IN HIM SHALL THE GENTILES HOPE.' Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

The Long Version:
Romans 15:8-13
Christ the Hope of Jews and Gentiles
8. For I tell you that Christ became a servant/minister to the circumcised/Israel to show God's truthfulness, in order to confirm/secure the promises given to the patriarchs/forefathers,
9. and in order that the Gentiles/races/nations other than Israel might glorify/praise/honor God for His mercy/pity/compassion. As it is written 'Therefore I will praise/agree/be of one mind/confess you among the Gentiles/races/nations other than Israel, and sing to your name.'
10. And again it is said, 'Rejoice/cheer make merry, O Gentiles/races/nations other than Israel, with His people.'
11. And again, 'Praise the Lord/Master/Owner, all you Gentiles/races/nations other than Israel, and let all the peoples extol/praise Him.'
12. And again Isaiah says, 'The root of Jesse will come, even He who arises to rule the Gentiles/races/nations other than Israel; in Him will the Gentiles/races/nations other than Israel hope/expect/anticipate.'
13. May the God of hope/expectation/anticipation fill/make full/complete you will all/every joy/delight and peace in believing/faith/confidence, so that by the power/might/strength of the Holy Spirit you may abound/be abundant in hope/expectation/anticipation.
My Comments:
8. Jesus Christ fulfilled all of the O.T. prophesies of who the Messiah was going to be! He also fulfilled all of the O.T. prohesies of what the Messiah was going to do...including the promises given to the forefathers about the Messiah.
9. But Christ didn't only come to Israel, He came so that the Gentiles also would glorify God.
2 Samuel 22:50
10. Deutoronomy 32:43
11. Psalm 117:1
12. Isaiah 11:10 and 11:1
13. Not only does Hope come through reading and staying continually in the Word of God (yesterdays post), but it also comes through the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit brings to light the eternal truths of Holy Scripture and helps us apply them to our life, and live them out.
In Christ,
David
